What Excel Rescue does

Excel Rescue is a free, browser-based spreadsheet cleaner. Open an Excel (.xlsx) or CSV file, tidy it up and download the result as a new file. Your original file is never changed.

It is built for the everyday jobs that eat time: removing duplicate rows, deleting empty rows, trimming stray spaces, fixing a wrong word across a whole column, renaming or reordering columns, and checking which items appear in one list but not another.

How to use Excel Rescue

Drop an Excel (.xlsx) or CSV file onto the page, or choose it from your device.
Pick the worksheet if the workbook has more than one.
Choose the columns that define a duplicate, then run Remove duplicate rows, Remove empty rows or Trim spaces.
Use Find and replace, or rename and reorder columns if needed.
Check the row counts and change summary, then download CSV or Excel.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove duplicate rows from an Excel or CSV file?

Upload the file, tick the columns that should make a row unique (leave all unticked to compare whole rows), choose whether to keep the first or last match and press Remove duplicate rows. The summary shows how many rows were removed and you can undo it.

Can I compare two Excel files?

Yes. Use the Compare tab, add a second file and choose the key column in each, for example an item code. Excel Rescue lists rows that are missing from one file, extra in the other, and rows whose other values differ.

Does it change my original file?

No. Everything happens on a copy in your browser. You download the cleaned result as a new file.

Does it support old .xls files?

Not yet. Save the file as .xlsx or CSV in Excel first. The tool will tell you if it receives an unsupported .xls file.
